The E-2 Treaty Investor Visa allows eligible foreign nationals to enter and work in the United States based on a substantial investment in a U.S. business. Unlike employment-based visas, the E-2 is designed for business owners, active investors, and entrepreneurs expanding internationally. The visa remains valid as long as the business continues to operate and meet eligibility requirements.
You may qualify for an E-2 visa if you are a citizen of an E-2 treaty country, have invested (or are actively investing) a substantial amount of capital in a U.S. enterprise, will direct and develop the business (not passive ownership), the business is real, operating, and non-marginal, and you intend to leave the U.S. once E-2 status ends (even though renewals are possible). Eligibility depends heavily on business structure, source of funds, and operational intent — not just investment amount.
There is no fixed minimum investment, but the amount must be proportional to the business type, sufficient to ensure business viability, and at risk and already committed (not just parked in a bank). Service-based businesses may qualify with lower capital, while asset-heavy or franchise models typically require higher investment. Wealth Matrix Group evaluates investment viability from both visa and tax perspectives before you commit funds.

Unlike immigration-only providers, we take a holistic strategy-first approach:
Pre-Investment Strategy Review: Before money moves, we assess business model suitability, investment risk exposure, cross-border tax impact, and ownership and control structure.
Business & Tax Structuring: We align your E-2 application with U.S. tax planning, home-country tax considerations, and Canada–USA cross-border compliance (where applicable).
Documentation & Financial Readiness: We guide preparation of business plans, financial projections, source of funds documentation, and operational compliance readiness.
Long-Term Planning: E-2 is often a starting point, not the final goal. We help clients plan for renewals, family considerations, business scaling, and future immigration or exit strategies.
Spouses can apply for work authorization in the U.S. Children under 21 can attend school in the U.S. Renewals are possible as long as business conditions are met. We factor family planning and lifestyle goals into every strategy.
Investing before structuring correctly
Choosing businesses that fail the 'non-marginal' test
Weak source-of-funds documentation
Ignoring tax exposure until after approval
Treating E-2 as only an immigration filing
Most advisors focus on approval. We focus on sustainability. We provide business-first strategy, cross-border tax alignment, compliance-driven planning, long-term visibility beyond the visa, and solutions suitable for entrepreneurs, not just applicants.
The E-2 visa works best for individuals who want active involvement in a U.S. business, value flexibility over permanent residency timelines, need a scalable, renewable solution, and prefer strategy over shortcuts. If your goal is long-term stability, financial clarity, and compliant growth, E-2 may be the right entry point — with the right planning.
Every situation is different. Investment size alone does not determine success — strategy does. Schedule a confidential consultation with Wealth Matrix Group for cross-border, business, and tax-aligned advisory.

Let's align tax strategy, CFO-level planning, and wealth stewardship so every entity, dollar, and decision works in sync—today and years from now.
